Denver Post Nuggets post Chris Andersen, who battled pain in right knee for much of the postseason, underwent surgery this week to repair a partial tear of the patella tendon — “The Birdman” is expected to be fully recovered for next season.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Steven Traina, the Nuggets’ team physician.
Andersen battled an assortment of injuries all season, and this latest injury occurred during Game 2 of the Nuggets series against the Jazz, which Utah won in six games.
Andersen averaged 5.9 points per game and a career-high 6.4 rebounds this season, while ranking sixth in the NBA with 1.88 blocks.
Why does anybody even like this guy? He's not very good. Really dude, 6 points per game? I get the whole 'birdman' gimmick, but I feel like he's only on the floor to go for ridiculous blocks. That's all he does. 9/10 times he ends up fouling or just flying by the shooter because he ALWAYS leaves his feet. Granted, it is cool when he gets a big block, but those are so few and far between.
As my high school basketball coach said, "If you get a huge block and knock it into the 3rd row, yeah it looks cool, but the other team still gets the ball back"
Figure it out Birdman.
On a side note, why don't the Nuggets play Renaldo Balkman more instead of this dude? He is a way better defender. I was at a game vs the Jazz a while back and K-Mart went out injured. Balkman came in and lit up the place, had like 4-5 blocks and 15 points or so.
Get this guy some playing time!
